On Thanks
The Harlequin speaks now in prose!
The reason why, nobody knows!
It may be he’s tired of writing in rhyme,
It IS hard to do that, all of the time.
One never likes to post just for the sake of posting, and hopefully this is not that. However, we do want to keep this little blog going, and since there are many deep thoughts in-progress currently floating around the house, and some even written in various stages, we want to acknowledge that and not just be silent.
And how could we be silent?
For God is the best. In the past couple weeks, we’ve had friends celebrate engagement, friends leave for far-off countries, friends amaze us with their talent, friends cook for us and friends who’ve helped us see God at work in many places. It’s been really good.
So there is much to be thankful for. You could say there always is, and you’d be right, in a sense. However, lately God has been surprising me, and I am forced to conclude that He really does do more than we could ask or imagine. He is a surprising God. Moreover, it may be just me, but I feel that if one can kinda shrug and say the goodness of God is something “there always is,” then one has found a way to be technically theologically correct while at the same time practically blasphemous in perspective and gratitude-level.
Thanksgiving is an opportunity to count your blessings, and if the list is kinda short, pray about that and think a little more. I’m not saying you should force a feeling, because you can’t, but you can do what is right and give thanks to God. Fight the lie that says God isn’t really doing that much that’s exciting in your life. For Jesus has paid the price for us, and is redeeming us, and THAT is amazing.
“Rejoice in the Lord always! Again, I say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be known to God; and the peace of God, which passeth understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Finally, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things honest, whatsoever things just, whatsoever things lovely, whatsoever things of good report, if any virtue, and if any praise, think on these things.”
